CINHOMO 2025 RULES

Rules and regulations of the International Film Festival Cinhomo 2025

The International Film and Sexual Diversity Festival CINHOMO accepts LGBTIQ-themed films of all nationalities, which will be eligible in the various sections of the festival: Fiction Feature Films, Fiction Short Films, Documentary Feature Films and Documentary Short Films.

The works must not have been exhibited in commercial theaters, broadcast on TV or be available to the public on the Internet or any other platform in Spanish territory prior to the celebration of the festival and must be copyrighted after 01/01/2023. Feature films must be unpublished in the Community of Castilla y León; in the case of short films it will not be exclusive but it will be positively valued. The organization reserves the right to include in the out-of-competition program films that do not meet these conditions.

Article 1. CINHOMO Objectives.

  • To disseminate and promote cinematographic works that address Sexual Diversity and Gender Identity with sufficient artistic and social relevance, and that, for one reason or another, do not enjoy regular distribution in conventional exhibition circuits, despite being endorsed by critical acclaim and/or prestigious awards in different international competitions
  • To serve as a sample of the work of social or cultural collectives from different countries that do not have the capacity to distribute their productions despite their great interest.
  • To provide references for people whose orientation or identity is not hetero-normative, promoting greater visibility, normalization and integration in our society based on respect.
  • To make known, through the documentary modality, the situation of the LGBTI population in different parts of the world, thus deepening the development of Human Rights.

Art. 2. Celebration.

  • The International Film Festival of Cinema and Sexual Diversity CINHOMO is held annually in the city of Valladolid. The Festival has been organized by Fundación Triángulo Castilla y León since 2000.
  • In 2025 the Festival will take place between the months of March and April.

Article 3. Sections.

The program of the International Film Festival of Cinema and Sexual Diversity CINHOMO is made up of competition and out-of-competition sections.

Competition sections:

  • FICTION SECTION: feature-length fiction films that offer an overview of contemporary world cinema and that have not been screened in commercial circuits in Castilla y León.
  • SHORT FILM SECTION: CinHomo makes a clear commitment to this communicative format and new cinematographic values, especially those coming from our country.
  • DOCUMENTARY SECTION – HUMAN RIGHTS CYCLE: documentaries related to the situation of LGBTI human rights in different parts of the world.

Sections out of competition:

  • KALEIDOSCOPE SECTION: films released in commercial circuits in our country that have not had the desired treatment, distribution or impact on our screens, despite their relevant artistic quality.
  • JEWEL SECTION: recovery of feature films from the history of cinema in which LGBTI characters were present in a more or less visible way.

The opening and closing films will also be out of competition.

Art. 4. Registration.

The authors who wish to register their works in the 2025 edition of Cinhomo in the competition sections may do so:

  • Through the online platform www.festhome.com
  • By e-mail: sending to cinhomo@fundaciontriangulo.es a download link to the submitted work and including: technical and artistic specifications, as well as name, surname, telephone number and e-mail address of the person submitting the film.
  • THE DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION IS JANUARY 10, 2025.
  • Work in Progress or non-final assemblies will be accepted, as long as the copy for exhibition purposes is available before March 1, 2025.

Art. 5. Conditions.

  • The year of production of the submitted works must be between 2023 and 2025, both included.
  • For the selection phase, MP4 (h.264) or AVI formats are accepted. For the screening at the festival, only DCP media will be accepted.
  • Fiction feature films must be longer than 60 minutes.
  • The duration of short fiction films shall be less than 20 minutes.
  • Documentary feature films must be longer than 30 minutes.
  • The duration of short documentary films shall be less than 30 minutes.
  • The screenings will be in the original version with subtitles in Spanish, except in cases where the language of the film is Spanish. Copies made in other languages must include the subtitles in Spanish or, failing that, be accompanied by the .srt file with the text in Spanish.
  • The return of the copies, when so agreed, will be the responsibility of the Festival once it is over. To this end, senders must have clearly indicated the address and date of return.
  • CinHomo reserves the right to exhibit the selected material at any time, as part of the socio-educational activities program of Fundación Triángulo, promoter of the Festival. This use will be for non-commercial, non-profit purposes, and always citing the authorship of the works. The reproduction of the works will be for educational purposes, as well as for the defense of the rights of the LGBTI community. (assumptions contemplated in art 32 of the Royal Legislative Decree 1/1996, of April 12, which approves the revised text of the Intellectual Property Law).
  • The participation of all the works in competition in the sections with economic prizes is without payment for their exhibition.

Art. 6. Notification.

  • Notification will be made before March 1, 2025 through the platform used for registration. If you have any questions you can write to us to confirm the status of your work. In case of registration of a material and subsequent non-response with the organizers of the festival before the interest of these in its programming, we will proceed to the subsequent exhibition of the work, understanding the willingness of the participant to collaborate with Cinhomo.

Art. 7. Awards.

Among all the feature films, documentaries and short films selected for the competition, a SPECIALIZED JURY for the Fiction section and another one for the Documentary section, composed of people linked to the world of cinema, activism or solidarity and Human Rights will decide the awarding of the following prizes:

  • Jury Award for Best Fiction Feature Film.
  • Jury Prize for the best fiction short film (300 €).
  • Jury Prize for the best feature-length documentary (300 €).
  • Jury Prize for the best documentary short film.

The juries may also award a special mention in any of the categories, if they deem it appropriate.

They may also award a Prize for Best Direction, Best Acting and/or Best Spanish Work, in any of the above categories, if the quality of the works so requires.

The following audience awards are also established, which will be decided by a vote of those attending the screenings:

  • Audience Award for the best fiction feature film.
  • Audience Award for Best Fiction Short Film.
  • Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature Film.
  • Audience Award for Best Short Documentary.

Art. 8. Selection.

Once CinHomo has confirmed the selection of the film work, the production company or the author will send within the deadlines established by the organization:

  • The copy to be screened in the format indicated in Art.5 (DCP) and .srt file with the text of the subtitles in Spanish.
  • Press dossier: trailer, diffusion materials, social networks and publicity of the cinematographic work.

Art. 9 Promotion.

  • Excerpts (up to 4 minutes) may be made from the programmed titles for theaters, TV, Internet or other promotional purposes. The material provided by the director may be used for promotional purposes or for the Festival catalog. The CINHOMO organization must be informed in writing of any such restrictions.
  • The Festival will incorporate the selected works into its private and protected film library. Depending on the quality and message, materials from this film library may be used for educational and awareness-raising or research purposes, without prejudice to copyright and with prior request and permission.

Art. 9. Exhibition.

  • The organization of the Festival will establish the order and date of exhibition of each film.
  • The selected participants will be informed of the date and time of the exhibition of their works through the web page: http://www.cinhomo.org/

Art. 10. Acceptance of the conditions and Data Protection Law.

  • Participation in the Show implies full acceptance of these Regulations.
  • Any other circumstance not expressly stated herein or that may be interpretable, will be resolved by the organizers of the Exhibition.
  • The organization reserves, exceptionally, the right to admit works that do not meet some of the above criteria.
  • The organization commits and undertakes that the personal data belonging to the data file of the participants will be treated in accordance with Article 12 of Law 15/1999, of December 13, 1999, on the Protection of Personal Data (LOPD).
